Comprehensive Counseling Services offers state-approved ASAM Level 1 outpatient treatment for alcohol and drug use at our Winder office. The program is led by Valerie Wood, LCSW, C-CATODSW, a state-certified clinical evaluator and treatment provider for DUI offenders in Georgia. It is designed for people who need structured, professional support but can stay in their homes and keep working while they get it.
What ASAM Level 1 means
The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) describes substance use treatment in levels of care. Level 1 is outpatient treatment: you live at home, you keep your daily routine, and you attend scheduled sessions with a clinician. It is the lowest-intensity level of formal treatment, which makes it a good fit when a person’s use is a real concern but does not require a more intensive program.
Who Level 1 is for
Level 1 is usually the right level for people who:
- Have a clinical evaluation recommending outpatient treatment
- Have a less severe pattern of alcohol or drug use
- Have stepped down from a more intensive program
- Have been stable for an extended period and need continued support
- Need treatment as part of a DUI-related requirements
- Our outpatient services are available to adults and adolescents
How the program works
- Clinical evaluation. Treatment starts with an evaluation and screening. Valerie Wood uses it to determine the right level of care. If you already have a current evaluation, bring it.
- Treatment plan. Based on the evaluation, you receive a plan that sets the length of your program and the expected number of sessions.
- Group sessions at our office. Sessions are held in person in Winder. We use the PRI Prime Solutions curriculum, along with group therapy and motivational enhancement. Treatment is two group sessions per week, each 1.5 hours, for a total of 3 hours per week.
- Progress and completion. Your length of treatment is set by your evaluation and your progress. When you complete the program, you receive a certificate of completion, which we fax to your referral source (probation, your attorney or the Department of Driver Services, DDS).
What you will work on
The goal of Level 1 is to help you change how you think about and respond to substance use. Sessions focus on understanding your patterns, identifying what puts you at risk, and building ways to cope with stress and difficult situations without relying on alcohol or drugs.
Schedule
Classes are offered in the afternoon and evening, depending on which class you need. Call us for the current class schedule.
Do I need an evaluation before starting Level 1 treatment?
Yes. The program begins with an evaluation and screening, which determines whether Level 1 is the right level of care and shapes your treatment plan. If you are looking for the evaluation first, see our clinical alcohol and drug evaluation page.
How long does ASAM Level 1 treatment take?
Your length of treatment is set by your clinical evaluation and your progress in the program, so it is different for each client. You attend two group sessions each week, 1.5 hours each.
Can I keep working while I attend?
Yes. Level 1 is non-residential, so you continue your normal activities, as long as you attend your scheduled sessions.
Is Level 1 treatment the same as DUI school?
Comprehensive Counseling Services does not provide the DUI Risk Reduction program. We provide clinical evaluations and treatment, so if DUI Risk Reduction is required in your case, you will complete it with a separate provider.
Do you offer Level 1 treatment for teenagers?
Yes, we do.
What do I receive when I complete the program?
You receive a certificate of completion. We fax it to your referral source, such as probation, your attorney or DDS.
